Abstract

The quality of human development in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (D.I. Yogyakarta) is improving, marked by an increase in the composite indicators of the Human Development Index (HDI).
The HDI level of D.I. Yogyakarta in 2018 has reached 79.53. This HDI figure is the second highest after DKI Jakarta Province and is much higher than the Indonesian HDI level of 70.81. The HDI figure of D.I. Yogyakarta in 2018 increased by 0.64 points or grew by 0.81 percent compared to the HDI in 2017 (78.89).
The high level of HDI 2018 was driven by the four constituent indicators. The life expectancy (UHH) of babies born alive in 2018 reached 74.82 years and became the highest level among 34 provinces in Indonesia. The expected years of schooling (HLS) of the population aged 7 years and above in 2018 reached 15.56 years and was the highest among 34 provinces in Indonesia. The average years of schooling (RLS) of the population aged 25 years and above reached 9.32 years, higher than the national average (8.17 years). The average real adjusted per capita expenditure during 2018 reached IDR 13.95 million, higher than the national average of IDR 11.06 million.
