Economic Growth of DI Yogyakarta in Quarter II-2020

Abstract

  • The economy of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) as measured by the value of Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) at the current price of the second quarter of 2020 reached IDR 32.12 trillion and at constant 2010 prices it reached IDR 23.73 trillion.
  • The DIY economy in quarter II-2020 against quarter II-2019 experienced a deep contraction, namely 6.74 percent (y-on-y) or reversed direction when compared to growth in the same period in 2019 of 6.77 percent. When compared to the first quarter of 2020 the DIY economy also experienced a contraction of 6.65 percent (q-to-q).
  • In terms of business fields, most of the categories grew negatively (y-on-y) with a deep contraction in other service categories, namely -42.75 percent, provision of accommodation and food and drink -39.34 percent, transportation and warehousing -34 , 30 percent, and construction -22.18 percent. Even so, several business fields were still able to grow quite high, namely information and communication 20.74 percent, health services and social activities 17.91 percent, and agriculture 10.06 percent. On the expenditure side, all expenditure components contracted.
  • The biggest contribution to the contraction in DIY's economic growth in the second quarter of 2020 (y-on-y) was given by the provision of accommodation and food and drink, namely -3.79 percent, followed by construction -2.38 percent, transportation and warehousing -1.81 percent , other services -1.18 percent, and the processing industry -0.96 percent. From the expenditure side, the contraction in economic growth was mainly contributed by gross fixed capital formation of -5.42 percent, household consumption expenditure of -3.31 percent, and foreign exports -1.78 percent.
  • Meanwhile, the largest contributor to the contraction in economic growth compared to the previous quarter (q-to-q) was the business field providing accommodation and food and drink, transportation and warehousing, and other services, each amounting to -3.51 percent, -1.44 percent. , and -1.10 percent.
