Abstract

In March 2019, the level of expenditure inequality in D.I. Yogyakarta showed an increase compared to the previous semester. This condition was reflected in the March 2019 Gini Ratio figure which was recorded at 0.423, an increase of 0.001 points compared to September 2019 at 0.422.

The Gini Ratio in urban and rural areas recorded an increase in March 2019 when compared to September 2018. The Gini Ratio in urban areas was 0.424 or increased by 0.003 points in the last semester. Meanwhile, the Gini Ratio in rural areas amounted to 0.328 or increased by 0.002 points compared to September 2018.
Based on World Bank criteria, the level of inequality in D.I. Yogyakarta is in the moderate inequality category. This is reflected in the percentage of expenditure of the bottom 40 percent of the population which reached 15.36 percent.
In rural areas, the bottom 40 percent of the population has an expenditure proportion of 19.73 percent of the total expenditure of the population. Meanwhile, in urban areas, the bottom 40 percent of the population has an expenditure of 15.00 percent of the total expenditure of the population.
